Spring Clean Your Skin: 3 Benefits of Cleansing
Cleansing is a vital part of any skincare routine as it removes impurities and build up, dead skin cells and excess oil. It is the key step for glowing, fresh skin, however, many of us don’t know how to clean our skin properly, or which products we should be using.
There’s a cleanser to suit all skin types. If you suffer from acne, the purpose of cleansing is to remove impurities. For pigmentation, cleansing properly ensures the skin stays clear and bright. For anti-ageing, we’re looking to set the skin up so active ingredients can deeply penetrate the skin in later steps of the regime. For dryness, it’s about hydration and ensuring you don’t strip the skin.
Using the wrong cleanser can really harm the skin and result in a sallowed or dull complexion. So, just like we often do with our homes and wardrobes with a change of season, it’s the perfect time for a skincare clean out and upgrade. With Spring upon us, it’s out with the old, in with the new and here we share three key benefits of cleansing and our favourite products.
1. TO REMOVE BUILD UP
Throughout the day, the skin on your face is exposed to bacteria, pollutants, dirt, and old (dead) skin cells. Daily cleansing removes these impurities and gives the skin a fresh, clean and healthy look.
We love The Cleansing Pad by Scott & Sullivan. Designed and developed by our co-directors Kaye Scott and Lisa Sullivan-Smith, The Cleansing Pads are pre-soaked micellar pads that remove dirt and impurities while hydrating the skin. Suitable for all skin types, these pads come in a convenient 60 piece jar perfect for throwing in your gym bag, suitcase or for your bathroom vanity. They can be used on their own or in addition to your daily cleansing regime.
2. TO MAINTAIN CLEAR SKIN
Tiny glands under our skin produce oil called sebum, which protects the skin from the outside world. These glands then use hair follicles within the skin as a pathway, allowing the oil to reach the skins surface to form a barrier that prevents the penetration of bacteria or other harmful agents.
Excessive dirt build up on the surface can cause blockages of the follicle, trapping sebum, sweat, and dead skin cells. Daily cleansing is a must to ensure skin is clear of blockages and maintains a fresh, plump glow.
3. TO BOOST HYDRATION
There’s a reason we’re encouraged to drink two litres of water a day! Hydration is just as important for our skin as well as our nutrition and health. The secret to hydrated skin is to find a product that not only moisturises but also prolongs hydration, resulting in younger-looking skin and enhancing the skin’s natural repairing process. Dehydrated skin looks and feels rough, wrinkled and aged. Cleansing helps manage PH levels of the skin, enabling sufficient water and product retention.
