The Benefits Of Cosmetic Injections
To some, cosmetic injections are a common part of their skin regime, but to others the concept is still a bit scary. Does it hurt? How long does it last? Will I end up looking too fake? Our Co-Director Lisa Sullivan-Smith has been performing anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers for almost two decades, so we sat down with her to find out more about the treatments and her approach to administering them.
What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
LSS: Put simply, anti-wrinkle injections releases neuro toxins into the face, which relax the muscle and decrease the appearance of wrinkles.
What is the main reason a person gets Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
LSS: Generally, our clients are looking for treatments that result in a more youthful look. Anti-wrinkle injections are a great option for this as they lifts, contours and enhances in ways that topical creams or serums cannot.
What is your approach to Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
LSS: Less is more! The clients I treat are looking for natural results and I always offer a personalised skin regime to support injectables. Good skin compliments cosmetic injections for a youthful look. I take a total face approach – looking at the upper, mid and lower face and making an educated and professional recommendation to the client. We’re not chasing wrinkles; we’re lifting, contouring, defining and enhancing the face.
Why are Anti-Wrinkle Injections still a bit of a hushed conversation?
LSS: I think it’s perhaps because there is still an opinion that anti-wrinkle injections make you look fake or frozen. If applied by experts, anti-wrinkle injections should never make you look fake, however dermal fillers if incorrectly placed or incorrectly dosed can.
Like most things, it has its risks, but a lot of our clients tell us that they have cosmetic injections for confidence, not because they’re searching for eternal youth. We want our clients to look like the best versions of themselves, not what they looked like 10 years ago, so it’s about effectively and naturally enhancing their skin suitable for their age.
Who are Cosmetic Injections best suited to?
LSS: Cosmetic injections are becoming more popular at the Clinic, partially due to the increased knowledge and awareness of our millennial customer. We always approach each consultation with a professional and objective opinion before going ahead with it. Every client must receive consent from our doctor, and if we think there are alternatives to cosmetic injections, then we will suggest these for our younger clientele. The average age of our injectable clients used to be ~35yo but it has now dropped closer to 30yo. At this age, we mainly treat the frontalis (frown lines) which results in a fresh, natural look.
