"I inspect the debris lifted from my face and there’s so much hair... and dead skin! Three weeks later, I’m still getting compliments about my bright, dewy complexion" - Body & Soul Editor tries Dermablading for the first time. Read More
WHAT IS DERMABLADING OR DERMAPLANING?
Dermablading is our term for Dermaplaning, a manual form of exfoliation, using a small blade to scrape away dead skin cells from the epidermis, to reveal the fresh, brighter skin beneath. Dermablading is also useful to remove unwanted hair on the face. An example of this is 'peach fuzz', the vellus hair around the neck and chin area.
As Dermaplaning does not use any active ingredients, it is a great treatment for sensitive skins, and safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
At The Clinic, we employ only doctors and nurses to ensure the highest quality of care. Dermaplaning is extremely safe when performed by trained professionals. On rare occasions, slight nicks can occur in the skin, which is why we don't recommend this treatment for people with acne.
Despite what many think, hair re-growth that is darker or thicker is not a risk of Dermaplaning. This is because the hair on the face that Dermaplaning targets is vellus hair, not terminal hair.
Results are immediate and evident after a single treatment. Your skin will be noticeably smoother and soft to the touch. For exfoliation purposes - best results come from 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. For hair removal - repeat treatments will be required depending on the re-growth cycle of your hair.
We start with a thorough cleanse of the face. The treatment is then performed by one of our trained doctors or nurses, using a sterile scalpel to stroke along the skin, in a way similar to shaving. The whole treatment takes 40 minutes.
You may experience a tingling or tightening sensation in the skin, similar to that of regular shaving, but no pain.
Fresh, glowing skin! There is no downtime with dermaplaning. Immediately after the treatment, your skin will feel really smooth and any peach fuzz will be gone. Makeup will go on smoothly and beautifully.
There are no special requirements for Dermaplaning. You can apply makeup, exercise and bathe as usual after your treatment.
We always recommend the use of sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or above should be used daily. If you are under the sun for prolonged periods of time, sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least once every two hours.
Whilst we have seen amazing results from Dermablading, please know that results vary and we cannot make guarantees. We recommend coming and speaking to our registered nurses for an in-depth consultation. They will discuss in detail how Dermblading works, whether it will be right for your skin type and the expected results in line with your skin goals.
