What Is Thermage?
Thermage is a clinically proven and non invasive way to tighten and contour the skin, combating the loss of elasticity caused by age, weight loss, children and other determining factors. Thermage treatments are all about energy – focusing radiofrequency energy into specific areas to kick start the body’s own collagen renewal process. By heating the deep layers of the skin, Thermage causes collagen fibres to contract, instantly improving the appearance of sagging or loose skin, giving you a smoother, firmer and younger look. Thermage works in a single treatment with no down time and delivers a natural result.
How Does Thermage Work?
Using radiofrequency technology, Thermage works below the surface to heat the deep layers of your skin, helping to remodel existing collagen and producing new collagen for an overall younger looking appearance. While laser treatments and other radiofrequency procedures also work to smooth the surface of the skin, no other treatment heats as deeply as Thermage.
At The Clinic, we are a certified Thermage partner. We use the Thermage CPT (Comfort Pulse Technology), the only device to use monopolar, capacitively coupled radiofrequency energy for the treatment of wrinkles.
What Are The Benefits Of Thermage?
- The Thermage procedure is fast and easy and requires no downtime from normal activities.
- Improvements are immediately visible and continue to improve after the treatment as your body goes through it's natural collagen rebuilding process.
- Thermage is suitable for all skin types and tones.
- The treatment delivers natural looking results on your entire face, including the forehead, eyes, nasolabial folds, jawline, jowls and the area under your chin.
- We also perform Thermage on the tummy and inner thighs for improvements to saggy skin.
What Are The Risks Of Thermage?
Thermage does not affect the outer layers of the skin, so there are minimal side effects or risks. There may be some mild swelling or redness after your Thermage procedure, which will subside within 48 hours.
Thermage is safe during breastfeeding but is not recommended during pregnancy due to the radiowave technology.
How Many Thermage Treatments Will I Need?
For best results, we recommended 1 Thermage treatment every 12 months.
What Happens During My Thermage Treatment?
We start with a thorough cleanse of the face and a temporary tattoo grid is transferred to act as a treatment 'map'. Using a handpiece, our nurse will apply the Thermage machine, one pulse at a time, in a systematic manner across the 'map'.
As the device touches your skin, you’ll feel a brief cooling sensation, followed by a deep but brief heating sensation, followed by another cooling sensation and gentle vibration. The heating sensation is a sign that the deep layers of your skin are reaching effective temperatures for collagen remodeling. Throughout the procedure, the nurse will ask for feedback on the level of heat sensation to help balance your comfort with maximum results.
A full face Thermage treatment takes up to 2 hours.
Is Thermage Painful?
During the procedure you may experience tingling and a slight burning sensation. We rate the pain 4/10, which can be easily managed with over the counter pain relief we recommend you taking 1-2 hours prior your treatment.
What Can I Expect After My Thermage Treatment?
Visibly tighter skin with a reduction in lines and wrinkles. Results from Thermage are immediate and will continue to improve over time during the course of your body’s natural collagen rebuilding process.
What Precautions Should I Take Pre And Post Treatment?
There are no special requirements for Thermage. You can apply makeup, exercise and bathe as usual after your treatment.
We always recommend the use of sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or above should be used daily. If you are under the sun for prolonged periods of time, sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least once every two hours.
Whilst we have seen amazing results from Thermage, please know that results do vary and we cannot make guarantees. We recommend coming and speaking to our registered nurses for an in-depth consultation. They will discuss in detail how Thermage works, whether it will be right for your skin type and the expected results in line with your skin goals.
